Alex the Astronaut is a singer-songwriter from Sydney, I’ve only really been hip to couple of her songs, but I’ve really liked them. The main thing that stood out to me when listening to this was how much I enjoyed her vibe, her voice is unique and emotive. When a chorus needs to be loud and catchy, it’s catchy and loud. When an isolated vocal needs to be haunting and heartbreaking , it’s heartbreaking and haunting. Her lyrics about victories over personal battles combined with her unapologetically Australian accent is so beautifully simple and nostalgia inducing. This is definitely feel good music, even if the main theme of a song isn’t so light, the complication always seems to resolve itself by the end. Except there were a couple of songs that were different. “I Like to Dance” was an actual tear jerker about abuse and “I Think You’re Great” is a heart breaking break up song. Alex really knows how to write a song on both sides of the coin, happy and sad. My only complaint would be that some of the songs were just a bit boring and at times and clumsy, but overall this was a really good. I think you could really get something out of it, whether it be motivation, general musical enjoyment or maybe just the feels.

Favourite Songs: Happy Song, I Like To Dance, Banksia, I Think Your Great

Score 7.5/10
