I haven’t listened to that many remix albums at all. But I do enjoy them, especially if I really liked the original (Madvillainy 2 is an underrated classic). I was really really excited to listen to this when I saw who was contributing. Injury Reserve, Dorian Electra, Charli XCX and GFOTY. The thing I really like about 100 gecs and the trend they’re creating is that they are making pop music, but putting a highly experimental twist on it. Having ridiculous fast paced synths bass and beats and distorted singing. I could see that becoming the newest trend in popular music and I’m pretty cool with it. Extremely popular, young pop stars like Charli XCX or BROCKHAMTON are implementing elements of this in their music. But anyway, all of the remixes were pretty good and some were even better than the originals. I was pleasantly surprised by Fall Out Boy and Hannah Diamond (who I hadn’t heard of before). I was disappointed in Injury Reserve, mainly because I didn’t like the song that much. I think If you really liked the original album, definitely listen to this, it makes the first one even better. But if 100 gecs isn’t your thing, one Charli XCX remix isn’t going to change it.
Favourite Songs: Money Machine (A.G. Cook), ringtone (Charli XCX), hand crushed by a mallet (Fall Out Boy), stupid horse (GFOTY, Baldor), xXX_wud_nvrstøp_UXXx (Tommy Cash, Hannah Diamond), gec 2 U (Dorian Electra)
Score: 7.5/10
