Ellie Goulding is a British singer. This album is like dance pop, but extremely personal and self reflective. It’s a bit of a strange combination. Sadly it’s really not for me. The emotional verses with the energetic beat drops, it clashes too much. Call me old fashioned. I feel like Ellie is trying to both be successful in the mainstream and keep her artistic integrity. That is a very difficult line to walk. Not many do it. I can, however, appreciate her innovation in dance pop content. And there were some relatively memorable songs. “Close To Me” is one of the most catchy and had some of the most interesting writing on the album and Swae Lee isn’t even terrible on it. This is a shortish and overly negative review because the album was just a bit boring and I have assignments to do. Blah.
Favourite Songs: Bleach, Flux, Close To Me
Score: 4/10
