There’s a certain breed of modern Australian feminist punk that really appeals to me. Bands like Tired Lion or Camp Cope. Bands that turn their frustration into catchy, insightful albums, full of passion. Cable ties definitely tried to go down this road, but sadly fell short. I did think that there were great songs on this album, that are just as passionate as say “Dumb Days” by Tired Lion. “Far Enough” was lacking in the insightful aspects and didn’t really have anything new to bring to the table regarding commentary social issues. I would’ve liked to hear some more clever observations, of which there were scattered around in the album. Some of the songs in the middle of the album address a controlling misogynist, who didn’t work hard to be successful. These, I think a the best songs , they are fiery and agitated, but still articulate. These songs also use a healthy amount of references to Australian life, that I love in Australian music. Overall this album was a fun, fast paced listen and made many good points, unfortunately those points had been made before, in more interesting ways. It really wasn’t bad at all and I recommend, if you’re a fan of Australian indie music, I’m excited for future releases.
Favourite Songs: Tell Them Where to Go, Sandcastles, Not My Story, Self Made Man
Score: 6.7/10
