STRFKR are a Synthsentric indie rock band from Oregon. I had heard some of their songs before, but this was my first experience with a full album. The Vocals in this album were trying to be lo-fi, unfortunately they ended up being way too monotone and boring. This was all I could think on the first listen. That the singer himself sounded bored, it seemed like he would sing the phrases: “I’m really sad” and “I’m really happy” in the exact same tone. Luckily for this album, on second listen I focused on the music more, which was excellent. I would describe it as extraterrestrial in the best way. It was weird, groovy, expressive and was what made the singer sound not completely dead. I loved the changes in tempo and strange sounds that were made into a funky beat. The main highlight on the whole album, weirdly enough, was the 30 second riffs at the ends of songs because they allowed the instrumentation to shine. Listen to this if you really really like “Of Montreal” because this somewhat sounds like some of their songs.
Favourite Songs: Dear Stranger, Deep Dream, Sea Foam.
Score: 6/10
