Thundercat - I was pretty pumped to to listen to this after hearing Thundercat’s last album “Drunk”, which I think is great. “Drunk” was a blend of jazz, funk and soul music, “It is What it is” for the most part is the same. My favourite Thundercat songs are always the funky ones with prominent baselines and more soul influenced sounds. This album had a few tracks like that, but I think had a much more of a psychedelic feel. The baselines throughout this album were top notch, and were the biggest highlight for me. I really dug the humour and personality like in “Dragonball Doorag” and in various other lines. I also really enjoyed a lot of the features, like Steve Lacey and Childish Gambino on “Black Qualls” and Ty Dolla $ign on “Fair Chance”. Thundercats vocals were soft and breathy, and on some songs I thought it did not complement the rest of the music at all, on others it was a good quality. But generally I’m not a huge fan of kind of singing. overall though I thought there were lots of enjoyable elements.

Favourite Songs: Black Qualls, DragonBall Doorag, King Of The Hill, It Is What It Is

Score: 7.3/10
