Donny Benét is a singer from Sydney. He’s one of the only current artists I can think of who is doing 80s post disco. Because of that, his music sometimes sounds really outdated, but almost in a cool way??Donny’s subject matters on his last 2 albums have been consistently confidence and having a good time. His music is light hearted and just makes you smile. He is lovably uncool. This is a quarantine album, all made in a hotel room. Donny’s optimism is very welcome. As well as being extremely funky, excitable and charismatic, he also becomes retrospective when he is talking about getting older (Second Dinner). Not being able to do the things he used to. He also has a song of sincere romance, which is slightly off-brand (Girl Of My Dreams). On this album you get a look at another side of Donny Benét. He is usually groovy with self aware irony. But on this album he is striped back more, he tells you his fears and feelings, still while being equally groovy. This album is very cool. It’s energetic, catchy, funky, funny. The complaint I might have is that it’s just a bit too lo-fi for me. But overall, great. Good job Donny.

Favourite Songs: Second Dinner, Girl Of My Dreams, Negroni Summer, One Night in Paradise

Score: 7.5/10
