Little dragon are a Swedish Electronic dream pop/ alternative rnb group. I’ve seen them on the colors show on YouTube and on like a version, as well as features on other albums, but this is the first time I’ve listened to one of their own albums. The songs are atmospheric, lo-fi and groovy. They use a variety of intriguing samples and instruments, incorporating them in to the beat. Things like a guy saying “Hey” or the mashing of piano keys or a recorder I think. The singer, Yukimi Nagano’s voice works really well with the part organic, part electronic funk, her voice is rich and mature and captivating. One of the problems with the album I found was that there were really long periods of just looping instrumentals with no change, it would sometimes be minutes, these were most often at the ends of songs, so it’s not that big of an issue. This album is super creative, funky, catchy and also contains a lot of personal stories and self expression in the lyrics.
Favourite Songs: Hold On, New Friction, Where You Belong
Score: 7.8/10
