Polo g is a young rapper from Chicago, he has that one tik tok song, y’know, “Hit the strip after school, Couldn't wait 'til I got outta class, Used to stare at the clock and shit”. Yeah you know it. His music is quite the common trap style pop rap, but on this album he managed to feature some really creative beats, with some cool switches and a good mix of melodic and boom bap. I was pleasantly surprised by the lyricism displayed on a number of the songs. The main complaint I have with Polo G is the recycled flows. He tends to over use the same type of rhyming structure, I started loosing focus by track 7. But there things I really like about him. Firstly, he’s an intricate lyricist, and has a really impressive vocabulary for a rapper of this style. Secondly, he doesn’t use autotune at all (god bless). Thirdly he isn’t afraid to show vulnerability amongst hard-hitting beats. Fourthly, the last song, “Wishing For A Hero”, you can tell he’s a classic hip-hop fan. I liked this album, but the dull similar flow on a lot of the songs was a big problem.

Favourite Songs: Heartless, Trials and Tribulations, Wishing For A Hero

Score: 7.5/10
