I was so so excited for this album. Freddie Gibbs is one of the most talented rappers right now, I feel like he’s missing from my top 50 list, but he should be there probably. And The Alchemist has always been one of the most consistent unsung heroes of hip hop. The Alchemist’s beats were laid back and chilled out, so gave a whole different vibe to Freddie’s rapping. It was more mellow. While I did think they worked pretty well together, I didn’t think it was the match made in heaven that Madlib and Freddie are. The lyrics and flow are, of course, great, Freddie slows down to match the beat. His lyrics are funny and goofy, with a little bit of social commentary. He isn’t as impressive as he is on “Piñata” or even “Bandanna”, but he still so fun to listen to. The features on this album were really good too, Tyler, The Creator has a very enjoyable almost 5 minute long verse where he barely takes any breaks. The are also good verses from Benny the Butcher and Rick Ross. This was a good album and an interesting change in vibe and sound from “Bandanna”. Freddie Gibbs is good at rapping.

Favourite Songs: God is Perfect, Scottie Beam, Frank Lucas, Something to rap about, Skinny Suge.

Score: 7.8/10
